obr-3 encodes two isoforms of a protein with an N-terminal pleckstrin domain and a C-terminal oxysterol-binding domain; OBR-3 has orthologs in Drosophila (CG5077) and humans (OSBPL8; OMIM:606736); OBR-3 binds the BMP receptor-associated molecule (BRAM) proteins BRA-1 and BRA-2; obr-3 is expressed in pharyngeal muscle, hypodermis, and several neurons; obr-3 is required for normally large body size, and the small body phenotype of obr-3(RNAi) animals is consistent with OBR-3 participating in TGF-beta signalling.
Predicted to enable cholesterol binding activity and sterol transporter activity. Involved in regulation of growth and transforming growth factor beta receptor signaling pathway. Predicted to be located in cytosol; intracellular membrane-bounded organelle; and membrane. Expressed in hypodermis; neurons; and pharyngeal muscle cell. Is an ortholog of human OSBPL5 (oxysterol binding protein like 5) and OSBPL8 (oxysterol binding protein like 8).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
