[C.elegansII] NMK. pes-4:lacZ expressed in nuclei of 3 rectal epithelial cells, from L1 to adult; also dispersed expression in pharynx. Clone UL#26D10. [Young and Hope 1993; UL]
pes-4 encodes a protein that contains two type 1 KH domains, RNA-binding domains that are present in a diverse group of nucleic acid-binding proteins; pes-4 was identified in promoter-trapping screens and by homology, is predicted to function as an RNA-binding protein; however, the precise role of PES-4 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known; a pes-4 reporter is expressed in three rectal epithelial cells from the L1 larval stage through adulthood and is also seen dispersed throughout the pharynx in all postembryonic stages.
Predicted to enable mRNA binding activity. Predicted to be involved in regulation of RNA metabolic process and regulation of gene expression. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Expressed in rectal epithelium. Is an ortholog of several human genes including PCBP1 (poly(rC) binding protein 1); PCBP2 (poly(rC) binding protein 2); and PCBP3 (poly(rC) binding protein 3).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
