nxf-1 encodes a homolog of human TAP protein, a member of the NXF family of shuttling transport receptors for nuclear export of mRNA; binds RNA directly and its function has been shown to be conserved with the NXF family.
Predicted to enable RNA binding activity. Predicted to be involved in mRNA export from nucleus. Located in nuclear envelope; nucleolus; and nucleoplasm. Part of nuclear pore. Is an ortholog of human NXF1 (nuclear RNA export factor 1); NXF2 (nuclear RNA export factor 2); and NXF2B (nuclear RNA export factor 2B).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
