scrm-3 encodes a putative phospholipid scramblase homologous to humanPLSCR1-5, and paralogous to other C. elegans SCRMs (e.g., SCRM-1);SCRM-3 is expressed in neurons, anal depressor muscle, and occasionallyin body wall muscle cells; however, in apoptotic germline cells, SCRM-3is fully dispensable for normally rapid engulfment and largelydispensable for phosphatidylserine exposure; SCRM-3 does not bind WAH-1in vitro, and scrm-3(tm631) mutants have no obvious phenotype.
Predicted to enable phospholipid scramblase activity. Predicted to be involved in plasma membrane phospholipid scrambling. Predicted to be located in plasma membrane. Expressed in body wall musculature and touch receptor neurons. Is an ortholog of several human genes including PLSCR2 (phospholipid scramblase 2); PLSCR3 (phospholipid scramblase 3); and PLSCR4 (phospholipid scramblase 4).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
