lin-2 encodes a protein belonging to the membrane associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family, with several domains (L27, PDZ, SH3, and guanylate kinase) thought to assemble specific multiprotein complexes in particular regions of the cell; in vivo, LIN-2 is required for the correct localization of LET-23 (and, presumably, other membrane proteins) to specific regions of the plasma membrane.
Enables insulin-like growth factor receptor binding activity. Involved in several processes, including egg-laying behavior; positive regulation of vulval development; and protein localization to membrane. Located in cell junction. Expressed in several structures, including CAN; HSN; isthmus; somatic nervous system; and vulval precursor cell. Used to study autism spectrum disorder. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in FG syndrome and syndromic X-linked intellectual disability Najm type. Is an ortholog of human CASK (calcium/calmodulin dependent serine protein kinase).
