rgs-5 encodes a regulator of G protein signaling; by homology, RGS-5 is predicted to function as a GTPase-activating protein that binds G protein alpha subunits and negatively regulates heterotrimeric G protein signaling; loss of rgs-5 activity via RNAi or a deletion mutation results in no obvious defects, and likewise, rgs-5 overexpression has no measurable effect on egg-laying behavior, locomotion, or viability; an rgs-5 transcriptional reporter is expressed in head neurons in larvae and adults.
Predicted to be involved in protein localization. Predicted to be located in mitochondrion and plasma membrane. Is an ortholog of human AKAP10 (A-kinase anchoring protein 10).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
