ers-2 encodes a predicted mitochondrial glutamyl-tRNA synthetase (GluRS), a class I aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase that catalyzes the attachment of glutamate to its cognate tRNA and is thus required for protein biosynthesis; ERS-2 contains, at its C-terminus, six tandemly repeated WHEP-TRS domains that have been predicted to function as general RNA-binding domains that may act as cis tRNA-binding cofactors.
Predicted to enable glutamate-tRNA ligase activity. Predicted to be involved in glutamyl-tRNA aminoacylation. Predicted to be located in cytosol. Predicted to be part of methionyl glutamyl tRNA synthetase complex. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in hypomyelinating leukodystrophy 15. Is an ortholog of human EPRS1 (glutamyl-prolyl-tRNA synthetase 1).
ers-2 was an other name of qrs-3 but has been update as ers-2(main name), qrs-3(other-name). ers genes have similarity to both glutamyl tRNA synthetases (ers-) and glutaminyl tRNA synthetases (qrs-). The ers gene class description is thus updated to glutamyl(E)/glutaminyl(Q) aa-tRNA Synthetase
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
