end-3 encodes a GATA-type transcription factor paralogous to end-1; during early embryonic development, end-3 functions redundnatly with end-1 to specify endodermal fate; like end-1, ectopic expression of end-3 is sufficient to specify endodermal fate; end-3 is expressed in the early E (endoderm) lineage; end-3 expression is downstream of med-1, a mesendodermal specification gene.
Predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in endodermal cell fate specification and mesodermal cell fate specification. Located in nucleus. Expressed in E; E lineage cell; Ea; Ep; and intestine.
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
