odr-2 encodes three isoforms of a predicted membrane-associated protein related to the Ly-6 (leukocyte antigen-6) family of GPI (glycosylated phosphatidylinositol)-linked signaling proteins; ODR-2 activity is required for proper functioning of the AWC olfactory neurons and thus for chemotaxis in response to AWC-sensed odorants; ODR-2 is expressed at high levels in sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons, where it appears to be enriched in axons.
Involved in olfactory behavior and response to odorant. Located in axon; external side of plasma membrane; and neuronal cell body. Expressed in head neurons; sensory neurons; somatic nervous system; tail; and in male.
