rbg-3 encodes a predicted TBC domain-containing RabGTPase-activating protein (RabGAP) similar to the Ypt/Rab specific GTPase-activating protein gyp6; YPT/Rab GTPases and GAPs regulate eukaryotic vesicular transport; RBG-3 functions as a GTPase for both human and elegans RAB-7; rbg-3 interacts with tub-1/Tubby in yeast two-hybrid screens and regulates fat storage along with tub-1, but not life span, suggesting that rbg-3 could function in a endocytic pathway as a target of tub-1 for regulation of fat storage; rbg-3 is expressed in the amphid and phasmid neurons in the head and localizes to the cytoplasm, this is similar to the expression pattern of tub-1.
Enables GTPase activator activity. Located in cytoplasm. Expressed in amphid neurons and phasmid neurons. Used to study obesity. Is an ortholog of human TBC1D5 (TBC1 domain family member 5).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
