Legacy_information[C.elegansII] pk96 : Tc1 insertion, no known phenotype. Encodes predicted protein related and 5' to lin-26. [ML]
[] lir-1 is located immediately upstream of lin-26. It encodes a protein with zinc-fingers homologous to those of LIN-26. lir stands for lin-26 related gene.
Complementation_data[] lir-1(mc33) complements the embryonic lethality of lin-26(mc15)

Structured_descriptionConcise_descriptionlir-1 encodes a LIN-26-like zinc-finger protein that shares a unique C2H2 motif together with LIR-2, LIR-3, and LIN-26; lir-1 is part of two distinct operons: it is the downstream gene in an operon with lir-2 and the upstream gene in a second, overlapping operon with lin-26; the precise role of lir-1 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known as neither loss nor gain of lir-1 function appears to result in clear abnormalities and RNAi experiments targeting lir-1 result in embryonic and larval lethality due to loss of lin-26 expression; lir-1 transcripts appear ubiquitous in early embryos, disappear, and then re-appear in later embryonic hypodermal and support cells; during larval development, a lir-1::lacZ fusion that should reflect expression of all transcripts is seen in nearly all cells with the exception of germ cells and post-L1 intestinal cells.Paper_evidenceWBPaper00003532

Remarklir-1(mc33) is a 3 kb deletion within lir-1, which was isolated after TMP/UV mutagenesis by PCR-screening with primers in lir-1/lin-26. It is very tightly linked to a new deficiency named mcDf3. mcDf3 removes about 250-300 kb starting in the cosmid B0495, which is adjacent to F18A1 on it right.
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.CGC_data_submission
