unc-108 encodes a small GTPase homologous to the Rab GTPases that function in endocytosis, membrane fusion, and vesicular trafficking events; unc-108 function is required in neurons for normal locomotion; unc-108 also functions in the removal of apoptotic cells, specifically it functions in engulfing cells for the recruitment and fusion of the lysosome to the phagosome; unc-108 is expressed in neurons and in engulfing cells.
Enables GTPase activity. Involved in several processes, including dense core granule maturation; phagosome maturation involved in apoptotic cell clearance; and regulation of locomotion involved in locomotory behavior. Located in axon; cytoplasm; and neuronal cell body. Expressed in several structures, including excretory gland cell; hermaphrodite somatic gonadal cell; neurons; pharyngeal gland cell; and rectal gland cell. Is an ortholog of human RAB2A (RAB2A, member RAS oncogene family).
