bus-5 is an uncloned gene required for colonization by Microbacterium nematophilum, the tail-swelling response to M. nematophilum infection, and for fully normal cuticle antigens and traction during movement; bus-5 is also strongly required for cuticle integrity and for long-term survival during starvation.
Expressed in hyp7 syncytium; hypodermal cell; and seam cell. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Catel Manzke syndrome. Is predicted to encode a protein with the following domains: NAD(P)-binding domain; NAD(P)-binding domain superfamily; and GDP-mannose 4,6 dehydratase. Is an ortholog of human TGDS (TDP-glucose 4,6-dehydratase).
