gstk-2 encodes one of two C. elegans kappa class glutathione transferases; while gstk-2(RNAi) animals exhibit no obvious developmental or morphological abnormalities, animals doubly mutant for gstk-2 and gstk-1 exhibit decreased respiration and a lower concentration of the monounsaturated fatty acid cis-vaccenic acid; GSTK-2 is expressed primarily in the pharynx, muscles, and epidermis and localizes to mitochondria.
Predicted to enable glutathione peroxidase activity and glutathione transferase activity. Predicted to be involved in glutathione metabolic process. Located in mitochondrion. Expressed in body wall musculature; intestine; and pharynx. Is an ortholog of human GSTK1 (glutathione S-transferase kappa 1).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
