Type | In_situ | Using a KLP-17-specific cDNA probe.
Pattern | klp-17 RNA is expressed quite specifically in the nucleus of the cells during C. elegans embryogenesis. The nuclear expression of klp-17 appears as early as the one-cell stage embryo, and it continues through 2-cell and 4-cell stages, very strongly. Hybridization signal remains fairly strong during subsequent development, including the cell proliferation and morphogenesis.

Remark | Several control experiments were conducted to ascertain the specificity of the klp-17 hybridization signal. Removing the klp-17 probe, and using only the bluescript vector as a probe does not stain the nuclei. On the other hand, when klp-3 cDNA, encoding for a different C-terminus kinesin was used as a probe, the hybridization signal was observed in the entire cytoplasm, with little or no signal seen in the cell nucleus.
