mut-16 encodes a glutamine/asparagine (Q/N)-rich domain-containing protein that lacks obvious homologs outside of other nematode species; MUT-16 activity is required for RNA-mediated interference (RNAi), transgene silencing in germ-line and somatic tissues, and for maintaining low levels of transposon mobilization; MUT-16 is thus predicted to play a role in chromatin organizataion and/or regulation of gene expression.
Involved in obsolete negative regulation of transposition, DNA-mediated; regulatory ncRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing; and siRNA processing. Located in mutator focus and nucleus. Expressed in several structures, including germ cell; germ line; and somatic cell.
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
