slcf-2 encodes a transmembrane permease of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS) that by homology, is predicted to transport metabolites across cellular membranes in response to chemiosmotic gradients; slcf-2 was first identified in molecular analyses of gene products linked to the vitellogenin (vit) loci on the X chromosome; slcf-2 mRNA is detected in embryos and adults, suggesting that slcf-2 may be a maternally expressed gene.
Predicted to enable hexose transmembrane transporter activity. Predicted to be involved in monosaccharide transmembrane transport. Predicted to be located in membrane. Is an ortholog of several human genes including SLC2A11 (solute carrier family 2 member 11); SLC2A5 (solute carrier family 2 member 5); and SLC2A9 (solute carrier family 2 member 9).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
