Legacy_information | b405 : a-glucuronidase activity reduced > 99%. No gross phenotype. ES1. NA11 (b410 (slight activity) gb25 etc.). Also intragenic revertants e.g. gb94 b410. Probable structural gene.

Structured_description | Concise_description | gus-1 was identified in a screen for mutations that result in extremely reduced or undetectable beta-glucuronidase activity; besides the loss of beta-glucuronidase activity, gus-1 mutant animals otherwise have no visible phenotype and are fully viable and fertile. | Paper_evidence | WBPaper00000862

Remark | gus-1 mutations were originally identified in a screen using a histochemical assay, and from that screen it was predicted that gus-1 is the structural locus for beta-glucuronidase. Y105E8B.9 encodes the only C. elegans beta-glucuronidase and it maps physically to the same region that gus-1 maps genetically. However, the mutant allele is not sequenced to give a direct proof that Y105E8B.9 is in fact gus-1. | Person_evidence | WBPerson1843
