atgp-1 encodes a predicted amino acid transporter glycoprotein subunit; when co-expressed in Xenopus oocytes with the AAT-1 or AAT-3 catalytic subunit, ATGP-1 is not able to facilitate amino acid uptake, even though ATGP-1 is able to covalently associate with AAT-1 or AAT-3 in the Xenopus expression system; however, when co-expressed with AAT-9, ATGP-1 is able to enhance the activity of this catalytic subunit; when expressed alone or with AAT-3, ATGP-1 localizes to the cell surface; when co-expressed with AAT-1, ATGP-1 localizes intracellularly.
Predicted to enable hydrolase activity, acting on glycosyl bonds. Predicted to be involved in carbohydrate metabolic process. Located in plasma membrane. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in cystinuria. Is an ortholog of human SLC3A1 (solute carrier family 3 member 1).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
