Promoter region 1 includes 2833 bp upstream of the initiation codon (ATG) of exon 1 of transcript nhr-40a and nhr-40b (construct #4586). Expression is first detected at the 1.5-fold stage of embryogenesis (A) and continues during larval stages to adulthood (B-D). Strong expression is observed in the anterior pharynx (arrow) and scattered head neurons (C) and in the rectal gland cells (D, arrow). Expression from truncated constructs #6011 (1013 bp) and #6059 (682 bp) is indistinguishable and is observed in neurons (E, axon marked by arrowhead, ventral neuronal cord marked by arrow) and uterine muscles (F) of young adults.
