PatternA single neuron with a cell body in the pre-anal ganglion that extends a process along the ventral cord towards the head expressed both enu-3p::gfp and ENU-3::GFP in animals at all larval stages and in adults in all lines generated (at least six independent lines). This axon is likely to be the PVT interneuron. The transcriptional and translational reporters were both expressed in the DA and DB motor neuron cell bodies. In some translational lines, weak expression of ENU-3::GFP could be seen in many cell bodies along the ventral cord, including DA and DB. In most of the lines generated, ventral cord expression was greatly decreased in adults. Other cell bodies including several in the head, along the body and the pre-anal ganglion region expressed ENU-3 more weakly than PVT and the DA and DB motor neuron cell bodies. Weak expression was occasionally evident in the DA and DB commissures and some longitudinal tracts as well as the seam cells in some of the lines generated. Expression was also observed in many cells in the embryo when the translational reporter was injected. It therefore appears as if ENU-3 is widely expressed, mostly at a low level, particularly in the nervous system of C. elegans.
