TypeNorthernTranscript levels in wild-type worms and germ-line-deficient mutants were compared.
PatternThe conditional glp-4(bn2ts) mutation was used to grow up a large population of animals with very small germ lines. In RNA prepared from glp-4(bn2ts) mutants grown at 25C, ego-1 transcripts were barely detectable, suggesting they are either specific to or highly enriched in the germ line. In contrast, the intestine-spe-cific transcript from a yolk-protein gene, vit-2, was present at high levels in both strains. As glp-4(bn2ts) animals contain a few germ cells, the low level of ego-1 transcript in these animals could be present in the soma and/or germ line.
