Pattern | Expression first becomes evident at the first larval stage, L1, when the head body-wall muscles and an unidentified cell(s) in the anal region harbour stain. The anal staining lasts only until L2/3, whilst the head muscles continue showing expression right through to adulthood. The expression pattern includes a further component in the vm1 cells associated with the vulva. These specialised muscle cells attach to the ventral hypodermis and the vulval labia, and are important in opening the vulva during egg-laying. Expression here is transient, seen only for a short time around the L4 to adult molt. All components of the expression pattern are non-nuclear localised.
The nuclei of the vm1 vulval muscle stain up, as do body wall muscles in the head. Vulval staining can be seen L4-young adult, with the head muscles staining earlier al ~L1-L3.
