Subcellular_localizationCe-emerin was detected at the nuclear envelope in all embryonic cells, and was detected in all cells examined throughout larval development and in adult N2 hermaphrodites, including the gonad, with one possible exception. Ce-emerin was not detected in cells undergoing spermiogenesis that had reached the stage of having condensed chromatin. However, we could not definitively conclude that emerin was absent from sperm, because sperm lack Ce-lamin (Liu et al., 2000) and therefore had no positive control for antibody access into these cells during staining. Nevertheless, the nearly ubiquitous positive staining seen for Ce-emerin throughout development and in adult animals was similar to that seen for human emerin, which is found in most cell types examined (Manilal et al., 1999).
