WBPicture0000008981Description(A) Immunogold staining using a VHA-5 antiserum in wild- type adults. (A1 and A2) Gold beads were frequently observed in the cuticle (white arrowheads) and at the apical plasma membrane (filled black arrowheads); note that we could occasionally find vesicle-like bead-bound particles in the cuticle (A2). (A3 and A4) High-magnification pictures of light (A3) and dense (A4) MVBs. White arrowheads, cuticular staining; black arrowheads, apical membrane staining; empty white arrowheads, intraorganelle staining; empty black arrowhead, cytosolic or background staining. Note that gold beads could be seen within MVB intralumenal vesicles, and at the MVB limiting membrane.
