DescriptionC. elegans Alternative Operon - These exist as a single gene locus where SL2 Trans-splicing occurs at downstream exons in the gene.

Remark[100615 pad] This appears to be a unique case where a single gene locus can be described as an operon.Curator_confirmedWBPerson1983
[100615 pad] The ests and transcriptome data make it clear that there is an exon 9 skipping event that results in the whole thing being spliced together making one mRNA. Alternatively, exon 9 is included and 3' end formation occurs within it. Presumably accompanying this 3' end formation event, an SL2 trans-splicing event occurs to exon 10, creating a second gene, composed of exons 10 and 11. The spacing is perfect and there is a good Ur element in support of this.Person_evidenceWBPerson71

[110419 pad] Created this alternative operon following personal communication from Tom Blumenthal. This Gene exhibits SL2 Trans-splicing at downstream exons in the gene.Person_evidenceWBPerson71
