adm-2 encodes a protein containing a snake venom disintegrin-domain and a metalloprotease-like domain (i.e., a protein of the ADAM family); like ADM-1, ADM-2 is homologous to a mammalian sperm glycoprotein (PH-30/fertilin) implicated in sperm-egg fusion, and ADM-2 might thus be a fusogenic protein mediating the merging of plasma membranes during development.
Predicted to enable metalloendopeptidase activity. Predicted to be involved in membrane protein ectodomain proteolysis. Predicted to be located in endosome membrane; lysosomal membrane; and plasma membrane. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including breast cancer (multiple); endocrine gland cancer (multiple); and lung disease (multiple). Is an ortholog of human ADAM19 (ADAM metallopeptidase domain 19) and ADAM33 (ADAM metallopeptidase domain 33).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
