PatternProtein extracts from five C. elegans developmental stages were analyzed by Western blotting for the presence of the 97.6-kDa RFP-1 using anti-RFP-1 antibodies. RFP-1 is expressed in all life stages of C. elegans. RFP-1 expression is high in embryos, L1, and L2 animals and appears to decrease slightly in the L4 and young adult stages. Extracts of the L2 larval stage appear to have enhanced proteolytic activity; the cause of which is unknown. As a control for protein loading, the extracts were also probed with a monoclonal antibody against actin. Except for a slightly lower intensity in embryos, the actin concentration was similar in all stages.
