e1467ts : at 20x self-progeny 16% XO male 11% ova are nullo-X as a result of reductional meiotic nondisjunction; X chromosome recombination specifically reduced 50%. ES3 (progeny). ME3. NA2 (e1490 (stronger allele : 33% Him at 20x)).

[C.elegansII] e1467ts : at 20C self-progeny 16% XO male, 3% 3X herm, 11% ova are nullo-X as a result of reductional meiotic nondisjunction; X chromosome recombination specifically reduced 50% or more, except at left end (increased); additional sterility not due to autosomal nondisjunction ( brood reduced 64% at 25C); some embryonic lethality. ES3 (progeny). ME3. OA4: e1490 (stronger allele : 33% Him at 20C)). Cloned: cosmid rescue K02A12. [Hodgkin et al. 1979; Broverman and Meneely 1994; FH]
him-5 was identified in screens for genes that when mutated resulted in an increased frequency of X chromosome nondisjunction and thus, an increased frequency of genotypically XO males in self-fertile populations; him-5 functions in X chromosome dynamics by regulating the number and distribution of X chromosome pairing events.
Involved in meiotic DNA double-strand break formation involved in reciprocal meiotic recombination and meiotic chromosome segregation. Located in condensed chromosome. Expressed in gonad.
