kap-1 expression was significantly downregulated but not abolished in the AWB neurons of fkh-2 mutants relative to wild-type animals. Expression in two additional neuron types (ASH and ASJ) was unaltered.
In wild-type animals, BBS-7 proteins always localize prominently at transition zones/basal bodies and clearly undergo bidirectional transport along ciliary axonemes. Interestingly, the heterotrimeric kinesin KAP-1 subunit mislocalized consistently along the dendrite, with no apparent anchoring to the transition zones and no observable localization to the ciliary axoneme.
