The anti-LIN-56 antibodies were used for whole-mount staining of worms. Starting at the late one-cell or early two-cell stage, LIN-56 staining was observed in the nuclei of most if not all somatic cells throughout embryonic and larval development as well as adulthood. LIN-56 is present in the P(3-8).p vulval equivalence group and their descendants throughout vulval development. Germline staining was observed in both wild-type and
lin-56(
n2728) animals and thus was not specific.
